The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) initiated an investigation on Wednesday following an incident at Kolkata airport where an IndiGo aircraft made contact with the wings of an Air India Express plane. Additionally, the aviation authority sidelined the pilots of the IndiGo aircraft pending the investigation.
As per an Air India spokesperson, the incident occurred while the Air India aircraft was awaiting clearance to access the runway in Kolkata. The spokesperson explained, “The wingtip of a taxiing aircraft from another airline made contact with one of our stationary aircraft, which was awaiting clearance to proceed to Chennai for a scheduled operation.”
Following the incident, the affected aircraft returned to the bay. The airline is actively collaborating with regulatory authorities and airport officials to conduct further investigations into the matter. The spokesperson expressed regret for any inconvenience experienced by passengers due to the incident, attributing it to external circumstances.
