Atlys, the platform that manages visa applications, noted a 42% decrease in visa applications to Turkey and Azerbaijan as a result of Indians being deeply upset with the two nations’ show of support for Pakistan in the recent Operation Sindoor. The disputes between the two countries have caused Indian tourists from large cities to reduce their travel plans.

According to a recent report, it was noticed that within 36 hours of the two countries’ statements, almost 60% of users stopped applying for a visa via Atlys. As the company reported, this sudden change in behaviour was highly noticeable.

“Responses were swift, not scattered. There was no need for people to be instructed to stay away from certain places. Mohak Nahta, Founder and CEO of Atlys, said that without much thinking, they moved ahead, based on instincts, info and a range of options.

She explained that current travellers respond to their emotions and can deal with changes quickly. “Just as with the intent to show care, we ceased all marketing activities in Turkey and Azerbaijan, showing solidarity with the feelings of Indian,” he added.

In Delhi and Mumbai, the number of Turkey visa applications fell dramatically by 53%. On the other hand, Indore and Jaipur saw a decline of 20%, which indicates that different regions reacted differently.

The number of group visa applications plunged by 49%, suggesting that planning a family trip together became less appealing during the pandemic. As for solo and couple travel, the decrease was just 27%.

At the beginning of the year, visa applications from Turkey and Azerbaijan jumped by 64%. The sharp decline this month is a result of the recent political changes in the region.
