New Delhi: Citing regrets over Chinese decision of making Galwan soldier Torchbearer for Olympics 2022, the Indian Diplomats have announced to boycott the opening and closing ceremony.
An official from the ministry of external affairs stated that it was regrettable that China has chosen to politicise the games. “It is indeed regrettable that the Chinese side has chosen to politicise an event like the Olympics. I wish to inform that our Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of India in Beijing will not be attending the opening or the closing ceremony of the Beijing ’22 Winter Olympics,” the statement from the ministry read.
Qi Fabao, a Chinese soldier is selected as the torchbearer for Winter Olympics. It is reported that he led to mount an attack on Indian Forces in Galwan Valley in June 2020. He is held responsible for the death of Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu who led Operation Snow Leopard. Twenty Indian soldiers had laid down their lives while fighting the numerically-superior Chinese troops, armed with nail-studded rods and other sharp weapons, during the clash.
