On Monday, S. Jaishankar, the Indian external affairs minister, said the Congress party’s claim that India had forewarned Pakistan was inaccurate and dishonest. Jaishankar mentioned the matter at a closed meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on External Affairs, where he was in charge, and the debate was on India’s military strike Operation Sindoor in Pakistan and PoK.

Sources say ministers of state Kirti Vardhan Singh and Pabitra Margherita, foreign secretary Vikram Misri and MPs including GS Aujla, KC Venugopal from the Congress, MM Abdulla of the DMK and Jaya Bachchan of the Samajwadi Party attended the meeting.

At the meeting, members of the Congress raised questions about reports that Indian authorities had shared information with Pakistan just before the airstrikes. Jaishankar denied the claims, saying that there was no such earlier discussion. He said that the first and only contact with Pakistan happened after the operation, when the Indian DGMO reached out to the Pakistan DGMO as part of standard protocol.

The government highlighted, describing from May 7, just how the nine strikes were launched without warning, and the DGMO-level contact began after the operations finished.

Jaishankar said on social media that the talks dealt with India’s no-tolerance approach to terrorism and the importance of uniting against threats that originate from other countries.
