Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir): The Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid near the Line of Control ( LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Army killed two unidentified terrorists in the operation. The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said it had received intelligence input about an infiltration bid. Based on this, the Army had increased vigilance and patrolling in the Keran sector of Kupwara.
Amidst the foiling of an infiltration bid in Kupwara, Srinagar police also achieved a major success. On Friday, three suspicious youths were arrested and weapons and ammunition were recovered from them. The police foiled a possible terrorist attack plot in time. According to a police spokesperson, the police were conducting routine vehicle checks in Mamta Chowk, Konakhan Dalgate area. During this, a black motorcycle without a registration number was signaled to stop. But the motorcycle rider and two other pillion riders tried to escape. The alert policemen immediately surrounded and caught all three.
The police officer stated that the arrested accused have been identified as Shah Mutayyab and Kamran Hassan Shah, residents of Kulipora, Khanyar, Srinagar. The third accused, Mohammad Nadeem, hails from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and currently lives in Kawa Mohalla, Khanyar.
Police recovered a country-made pistol and nine live cartridges from them. Initial investigations indicate that the accused were planning to carry out a terrorist attack in the area using the seized weapons and ammunition. An FIR has been registered at the Khanyar police station under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Police are now interrogating the accused and gathering information about the network and possible links.
