New Delhi: India continues to witness a decline in daily COVID-19 cases as the nation saw a drop with 7,171 case in 24 hours. The drop comes a day after the country logged 7,533 cases. The active cases in the country as reported by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today have declined from 53,852 to 51,314 today.
The active cases now comprise 0.11 per cent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate has been recorded at 98.70 per cent. The number of people who have repurcated from the disease surged to 4,43,56,693 while the case fatality rate is recorded at 1.18 per cent.
220.66 crore doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the nation so far. Sources reveal that the Omnicron sub-variant XBB1.16 could be driving the surge in cases. However, there is no need to panic if people follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get their booster shots.
World Health Organisation (WHO) also issued its weekly epidemiological update on COVID-19 that reported nearly 2.8 million new cases globally and over 16000 deaths in last 28 days. Although there has been a decline in the number of the reported cases, increases in reported cases and deaths have been witnessed in the South-East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions, claimed the report.
