New Delhi: India recorded 8,306 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.35 per cent accounted for 8,834 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,40,69,608. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.94 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 63 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 98,416, lowest in 552 days accounting for 0.28 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 739 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.37 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 211 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,73,537.
India’s Covid tally has seen a steady rise with fresh cases emerging across states despite implementation of strict rules. Currently 21 cases of the Omicron variant have been recorded since the detection of first case in Karnataka. After Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi, Jaipur recently reported detection of nine cases of the mutated South African strain.
A woman and her two daughters who travelled from Nigeria, her brother and his two daughters in Pimpri Chinchwad a township near Pune and one male who travelled from Finland have tested positive for the new variant in Maharashtra. With the recent detection, the Omicron tally for the financial capital has raised to 7.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 127.93 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country , including 24.55 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
