Gwalior: Eight Cheetahs will land tomorrow to bring to fruition an idea conceptualised over 12 years ago. This historic mission marks the first time a wild Southern African cheetah will be introduced in another country, on Prime minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
The transcontinental flight has been planned overnight so that the animals travel during the collest hours of the day. The Cheetahs will land in Gwalior tomorrow morning and will be transferred by helicopter to Kuno National Park where they shall be welcomed by a delegation led by PM Modi.
Laurie Marker, the executive director of Cheetah Conservation Fund has been playing key role in translocation of the animal in other regions of Namibia and in South Africa. Being officially extinct in 1952, Project Cheetah was approved by the Supreme Court in 2020 as a pilot programm to reintroduce the species to nation.
