New Delhi: India is set to get its 15th president as the votes will be counted for the presidential elections today. The counting shall begin at 11 AM in Room No 63 in the Parliament House and the result shall be declared immediately after that. The contest lies between BJP-led NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu and joint Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.
BJP’s candidate Murmu is likely to be the odds-on favorite and if elected, she will be the first tribal president of India and the second female president. Meanwhile, BJP high command has instructed the office bearers to plan victory celebrations for the former Jharkhand governor, Droupadi Murmu.
On July 18, all elected MLAs and MPs across the nation voted for Ram Nath Kovinds’s successor. The Election Commission had permitted 728 out of 736 electors to cast their votes. The total turnout at the Parliament House was 98.91 per cent.
