New Delhi: India recorded 38,949 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. Meanwhile, it is expected that, the third wave of Covid is likely to hit the country at the end of August.
The recovery rate at 97.28 per cent accounted for 40,026 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,01,83,876. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.99 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 25 consecutive days.
The active caseload currently stands at 4,30,422 accounting for 1.39 per cent of the total number of cases. 1619 active cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported 542 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,12,531.
The third wave of Covid is likely to hit the country at the end of August but may not be as devastating as the second wave, Dr Samiran Panda, Head of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research informed.
