New Delhi: Registering a mild decline in cases, India on Monday reported 3,207 fresh Covid-19 cases, according to Union Health Ministry updated data. A total of 3,410 recoveries were reported on Monday, according to the Health Ministry data. While the country’s active cases stood at 20,403, 29 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry data further revealed.
The active cases comprise 0.05 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.74 per cent, the ministry said. Even as cases have been increasing across the country in the past four weeks, there were just around 20 deaths from the virus reported in the week ending May 8th. The weekly death toll is the lowest since March 2020, when the pandemic first hit India and just a few cases were being reported each week in India.
A total of 24 students of the city-based National Institute of Design (NID) have tested positive for COVID-19 in three days, with 16 cases being reported on Sunday alone, officials said. The authorities have declared the new boys’ hostel and another block of the premier design institute as micro containment zones in an effort to contain the spread of the virus, an official of the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said.
Meanwhile, the national capital reported 1,422 new Covid cases on Sunday, according to the health bulletin by the Delhi government. As many as 1,438 Covid-19 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic in the city to 18,62,136. Under the vaccination drive in the city, 51,761 beneficiaries received the Covid-19 shots taking the cumulative vaccine doses jabbed so far to 3,37,30,034.
