New Delhi: India, so far, logged 2.83 crore total Covid cases with 1,32,788 fresh infections recorded in the last 24 hours, reported the Union Health Ministry. The death toll rose up to 3,35,115 after the ministry registered 3,207 deaths. 

A persistent drop in the COVID graph is observed from the past few days after the country witnessed griming records crippling the health care system. The country has 17,89, 437 active cases, the Health Ministry stated. Nearly, 2,31,397 patients recovered in a single day, meaning 2,61,71,112 contracted the viral infection.

Despite logging the 26,513 coronavirus cases, Tamil Nadu CM expressed disagreement over the ‘continuation of the lockdown.” The worst-hit state Maharashtra recorded 14,123 new infections and 35,949 recuperations. Out of the total cases logged by the state 2,30,681 active cases have been observed. Karnataka logged similar figures of infection while 29,271 recuperated, reported the state health bulletin. As per MoHFW,  the recovery rate increased to 92.48% while the fatality rate stood at 1.2%. ICMR reported a spike in testing capacity as 35 crore infected samples were tested so far. 

The Union Health Ministry indicated on Tuesday that coronavirus infections in children are being keenly observed. While the first Covid wave had mainly targeted the elderly, the second wave took a toll on the younger population, says the ministry.  Citing the safety of the students and the staff, PM Modi on Tuesday evening called off the Class 12 CBSE Board exams.
