New Delhi: India reported 67,208 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. This took the cumulative count of infections to 2,96,19,479 stated the Union Health Ministry.
The recovery rate at 95.93 percent accounted for 1,03,570 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recovery count to 2,84,91,670. The daily positivity rate stood at 3.48%, less than 5% for 10 consecutive days.
The number of active cases has reduced to 8,26,740 accounting for 2.78 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 38,692 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.29 per cent reported 2,330 deaths, taking the cumulative death toll to 3,81,903.
Amid debate over the required gap between the two doses of the Covishield vaccine, Covid Working Group Chief Dr NK Arora has said that according to research in India, a single shot had up to 61 percent effectiveness against the Delta strain, which has a higher transmissibility and disease severity.
