New Delhi: India recorded 6,396 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.64 per cent accounted for 13,450 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,23,67,070. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.69 per cent.

The number of active cases stood at 69,897 accounting for 0.16 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a drop of 7,255 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate stood at 1.20 per cent recorded 201 fatalities taking the cumulative death toll to 5,14,589. Citing an analysis, the health dept. revealed that unvaccinated people account for 92 per cent of COVID-19 deaths since January this year. “It is evident that vaccines and the wide vaccination coverage have played a very important role in protecting hundreds of lives. The vaccine has protected the nation from a surge in the number of Covid cases,” Dr VK Paul, NITI Aayog.

With the administration of 24.84 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 178.29 crore according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

According to the health ministry, more than 179.14 crore (1,79,14,49,670 vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt. of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category. Around 15.49 Cr (15,49,34,846) balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs, it added.
