New Delhi: India recorded 41,195 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. Meanwhile, The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has granted approval for trials that will mix two different Covid vaccines — Covishield by Serum Institute of India and Covaxin by Bharat Biotech. The study will be conducted by Christian Medical College, Vellore.
The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) had a week ago recommended granting a nod for the mix-and-match trial of Covishield and Covaxin. Combination of the two different vaccines had not been allowed in the country so far as no such trials were conducted and no data was available regarding the safety and efficacy of such combinations. This will be the first-of-its-kind study in the country and will involve 300 participants
Currently, The recovery rate at 97.45 per cent accounted for 39,069 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,12,600,50. The daily positivity rate at 1.94 per cent; less than 3 per cent for the last 17 days.
The active caseload stands at 3,87,987 accounting for 1.21 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 1636 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.34 per cent reported 490 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,29,669.
The National capital records an improvement in COVID situation. Currently, the positivity rate in the state is recorded at 0.06 per cent according to the state health department. An unspecified number of COVID-19 patients died due to “insufficient oxygen being available” in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati during the second wave, the centre told Parliament on Tuesday.
Under the national vaccination drive, 44.19 lakh beneficiaries were immunized in the last 24 hours. So far 52.36 crore citizens have been vaccinated.
