New Delhi: India recorded 25,920 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.12 per cent accounted for 66,254 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,19,77,238. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.07 per cent.

The number of active cases stood at 2,92,092 accounting for 0.68 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a drop of 40,826 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate stood at 1.19 per cent recorded 492 fatalities taking the cumulative death toll to 5,10,905.

Days after clusters of recombinant Delta and Omicron variants of coronavirus were reported from across the world, a leading virologist said there was no need to panic at the moment.

“Nothing to suggest at this moment that these recombinants have any additional advantage compared to Omicron,” Vinod Scaria, a scientist at the CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, said on Twitter on Tuesday.

The UK health agency detected cases of hybrid variant Deltacron a combination of Delta and Omicron variants of the coronavirus. However, it has given no details of its infectivity and transmission as of now.

With the administration 37.76 lakh (37,76,806) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 174.64 cr (1,74, 64,99,461)  according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
