India recorded an average 87 rape cases every day in 2019; witness over 7 percent rise from 2018

New Delhi: India reported 4,05,861 instances of crimes against women in the year 2019 , a spurt of over 7 percent from 2018- shows most recent information released by the National Crime Records Bureau. 

The “Crimes in India – 2019” report shows that From 2018, the rate of crime against women has risen by 7.3%, with the country recording an average 87 rape cases every day in 2019. Assam reported the highest rate of crimes against women at 117.8 per lakh population.. The crime percentage enlisted per lakh lady’s populace is 62.4 percent in 2019, up from the 58.8 percent figure of 2018.

The nation had recorded 3,78,236 instances of assaults against women in 2018, information shows. 

“Majority of these cases under the Indian Penal Code were registered under ‘cruelty by husband or his relatives’ (30.9%) followed by ‘Assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty’ (21.8%), ‘kidnapping and abduction of women’ (17.9%),” the NCRB data for 2019 showed.

In 2018, 33,356 assaults were recorded across the nation over, up from 32,559 out of 2017, as per the information from relating years.
