India recorded 35,178 new Covid Cases in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 97.52 percent accounted for 37,169 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,14,85,293. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.96 per cent, less than 3 percent for 23 consecutive days.
The number of active cases has reduced to 3,67,415 accounting for 1.14 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 2,431 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.34 per cent reported 440 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,32,519.
Kerala continues to report a significant surge with over 21,000 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours. The active caseload in the southern states has increased to over 1.75 lakh.
Tamil Nadu officials are reporting ‘vaccine apathy’, following a drastic dip from around 36,000 cases per day in May to less than 2,000 now. On Monday over 4 lakh doses were administered but the daily average over the last week is 2.23 lakh. Only 37 per cent of the population has had one dose and around 8.2 percent both.
India’s cumulative vaccine coverage crossed 56 crore landmark after 55,95,075 beneficiaries were immunized on August 17.
