New Delhi: India continued to record a dip in its daily infections after 45 days. The Union Health Ministry confirmed 1,74,083 infections in the last 24 hours, taking the total count to 2.77 crore since the outbreak. The active count also dropped to 22,12,201. However, the mortality count continued to spike after 3,611 new deaths were reported.

Worst hit state Maharashtra logged  20,740  fresh cases and  973  mortalities taking the death toll to  93,198. The Financial Capital recorded a drop below the 1,000-mark after over 11 weeks. On Friday BMC record 929 cases, its lowest since March 2.

The government on Friday reiterated that it aims to vaccinate the entire country by the end of this year. “The Health Ministry has given a blueprint. 108 crore people with 216 crore doses will be vaccinated by December,” Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said in a televised briefing.

Over 28 lakh vaccines were administered on Friday, the government said, adding that 20.86 crore doses have been administered thus far. “Production of Covaxin vaccine will hit six crore by July/August under Atma Nirbhar Bharat 3.0 Mission COVID Suraksha. Almost 90 Lakh doses (are) committed for the month of June,” an official statement read.

 Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said his government will start unlocking the city gradually from Monday. While Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray stated his government will extend the lockdown-like restrictions after June and ease the curbs in a phased manner.

Globally, there have been 168,599,045 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 3,507,477 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 25 May 2021, a total of 1,545,967,545 vaccine doses have been administered.
