The Department of Posts (DoP) on Tuesday launched a next-day delivery service in six major cities in the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This is a major move in the modernization of the logistics services of India Post. This initiative has been launched in the national capital by Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

This is a part of the overall strategy of transforming India Post into a competitive logistics service provider in the rapidly growing parcel and electronic commerce logistics business. In the first phase of the next-day delivery service, the Department of Posts is launching three new services: 24-hour speed post service for documents, 24-hour speed post service for parcels, and 48-hour speed post service.

The pricing for the document service will start at Rs. 38 for local destinations for a maximum of 50 grams, while the parcel service will start at Rs. 200 for a maximum of 500 grams. The minister stated that in the next phase, the service will be expanded to more cities by September. The next-day service will be launched internationally by March 2027.

Emphasizing the transition from traditional mail delivery services, he pointed out that parcel delivery is likely to be a major growth engine for India Post.

Considering the growth prospects for the Indian e-commerce market in the coming years, the initiative makes India Post an attractive logistics provider for major e-commerce platforms while also meeting the increasing need for such services in smaller cities and rural areas.
