New Delhi: Indian Ambassador to the UN, attended the first-ever physical meeting after India was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. It has been five months since the country was announced as a non-permanent member.
Attending the first in-person meeting to be held since December 2020, India’s permanent representative to the UN, TS Tirumurti on Friday posted on Twitter: “It has taken a full five months for #India to enter the @UN #SecurityCouncil chambers, physically!”. Along with the feelings he shared few visuals of the inside of the chamber. “First in-person meeting experience – a feeling of anticipation and humility to finally take India’s place at the famous #UNSC’s Horseshoe Table. #IndiainUNSC @MEAIndia,” -he tweeted further.
India for the eighth time is elected as a non-permanent member. Previously India served as a member of the powerful body from 2011-2021.
The Council last met on December 7, 2020, amidst the pandemic. India, Norway, Kenya, Ireland, and Mexico joined non-permanent members Estonia, Niger, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines, Tunisia and Vietnam, and the five permanent members China, France, Russia, UK, and the US in January 2021.
