The DGMOs’ pre-scheduled talk, originally meant to take place at 12 noon on Monday, has now been changed to the evening of that same day. The arms forces have not given any concrete reason so far why the postponement happened, but debilitating rescheduling comes when military problems between the two countries are heightening.
With the declaration on Saturday of a ceasefire by both countries, this meeting achieves uncommon importance. The agreement demanded an immediate suspension of hostilities, as a matter of fact, all warfare was brought to a stalemate in all genres: land, air, and sea. The declaration had the intention of reducing the strains of the continuing violence at the border.
It all started with the terrorist attack of April 22 on Pahalgam, which led to India launching a counter-strike Operation Sindoor, a military operation targeted. On May 7, the operation struck nine key terror junctions in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Indian operation went after infrastructure that is vital for terrorists’ activities and high-profile targets associated with the reemergence of the latest attacks.
All of India’s follow-up military moves in response to Pakistani provocations were part of Operation Sindoor. The Indian military was sure that the campaign was conducted with precision in order to save civilian life and deliver the strongest blow to terrorist networks in their given sanctuaries.
Although regional stability is far from stable, the outcome of this high-level military conversation can be expected to play a decisive role in shaping the future of India-Pakistan relations in the near term.
