New Delhi: Today, Monday, May 12th, marks the second day of the India-Pakistan ceasefire. The situation along the border areas of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir is currently normal. Markets are open, and daily life appears to be proceeding without disruption. There have been no reports of firing from the Line of Control (LoC) or any other areas. The Indian Air Force has reiterated that Operation Sindoor remains ongoing, stating that while targets have been achieved, the operation continues.
To further de-escalate tensions, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO)-level talks between India and Pakistan are scheduled for 12 noon today. Sources indicate that India has communicated its stance that, following the ceasefire, discussions will be conducted exclusively between the DGMOs of both nations, excluding the involvement of any other country.
Jammu city remains completely calm and stable. According to local administration and security agencies, no drone activity, firing, or shelling was reported overnight. Additionally, a gate of the Salal Dam, located on the Chenab River in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir, has been opened.
According to sources, the Indian air strikes on the night of May 9th and the morning of May 10th were a decisive turning point in de-escalating the conflict. This action by India was significant. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, and subsequently with India’s Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar. Rubio informed Jaishankar that Pakistan was prepared to engage in talks. India clarified to the United States that these talks should occur between the Director Generals of Military Operations of both countries. Following this, the Pakistani DGMO requested a time for talks with his Indian counterpart, and the meeting was scheduled for 1 PM on May 10th.
