Mumbai: The Malayalam movie Jallikattu stars Antony Varghese, Sabumon Abdusamad, Chemban Vinod Jose, and Santhy Balachandran in lead roles.
This plot of the movie involves a bull that runs away from a slaughterhouse into a remote village of a hilly area and the villagers hunt down for it. The story is based on author S.Hareesh’s short story Maoist.
India has never won any academy awards, even though it keeps sending its entry every year in the foreign film category. In 2019, it was Zoya Akhtar’s gully boy that was nominated for the Oscars.
A total of 3 films that include Mother India (1958), Salaam Bombay (1989), and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan (2001) have made it to the final list of top 5 entries in the Oscars but could not grab the title.
The industry experts and the film critics blame improper promotions and marketing for losing out to Oscars every time. They even suggest running marketing campaigns that may cost up to Rs. 10 crores.
They say that the producers need to go to LA and camp there for a few months and hire agencies that would do publicity for them before the academy awards selection procedure occurs.
