New Delhi: India reported 40,120 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 97.46 percent accounted for 42,295 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,13,02,345. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.04 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 18 consecutive days. 

The number of active cases stands at 3,85,227 accounting for 1.20 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 2,760 cases in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.34 per cent reported 585 deaths, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,30,254.

Kerala records 562 new active cases while Maharashtra, the worst hit state, detected a decline of active cases by 2210. Meanwhile, the southern region is reportedly contributing to more than 50% of the total caseload in the country.

As per MoHFW, 52,95,82,956 vaccines were administered in the past 24 hours. So far 57.31 crore beneficiaries have been immunized under the nationwide vaccination drive. As per ICMR, 19,70,495 infected samples have been tested in the past 24 hours. The cumulative count of tests done since the outbreak stands at 48.94 crores.
