New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry declared a new kind of electronic visa to accelerate the applications of Afghans who want to come to India given the current critical situation in Afghanistan. The declaration was made two days after the Taliban gained power in Afghanistan.

A large number of Afghans hurried to Kabul’s chief airport on Monday. Some of them were so desperate that they clung to a military jet as it was taking off and lost their lives. “The MHA reviews visa provisions because of the current situation in Afghanistan. A new category of electronic visa called ‘e-Emergency X-Misc Visa’ introduced to fast-track visa applications for entry into India,” said a Home Ministry spokesman.

People rushed to the Kabul Airport when the Taliban established their rule over the capital of Afghanistan. It took just over a week for the terror group to remove the nation’s Western-backed government. No major claims of fighting have been reported. However, many Afghans stayed indoors and remained frightened as the Taliban rule gained prominence in the country.
