The incorporation of Ayush products in the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Oman has been a giant stride by the country in popularizing its traditional systems of medicine in the global market. The free trade agreement will help gain better market access to the Indian traditional medicines in the Gulf country and will be the first agreement to include such products in an international trade accord.
The move was described by an official statement as a landmark development and Oman was committed to traditional medicine in all its forms of supply. It posed the first all inclusive commitment by any nation and presented a substantial chance to the Ayush and wellness industries in India to show their potential in the Gulf area.
The annexure identified in the CEPA signed on Thursday marks trade in health-related and traditional medicine services. It provides a foundation upon which the two nations have wide collaboration in licensing and qualification, digital administration of licensing tests, support of medical value tourism, capacity development, standardisation, and joint research. These measures will also likely facilitate the barriers to entry and promote unhindrance of Indian Ayush products and services into the Omani market.
Ministry of Ayush has been keen to promote the Indian system of traditional medicine like Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy to the world. In this undertaking, the ministry has introduced a central sector scheme to facilitate international collaboration in Ayush. In this plan, the Indian manufacturers and service providers are supported to increase export, international visibility, international recognition of Ayush systems and improve academic and research cooperation.
The Ayush exports of India have recorded a consistent increase over the years as a result of the increased interest of the world in the alternative and holistic healthcare. In 2020, export statistics grew to USD 1.54 billion.
