New Delhi: A group of opposition MPs sat in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Parliament House in protest against the disruption of the monsoon session for the third day. The newly formed opposition grouping INDIA has been demanding prime minister Narendra Modi to give a comprehensive statement on the over two-month-long ethnic violence in Manipur.
Holding INDIA for Manipur placards, leaders from Aam Admi Party (AAP) and Congress were seen holding a silent protest at late Monday night till 10:45 AM today morning. Earlier during the day, the Congress said that the parliament did not function for a third day as the government continues to refuse to accept INDIA’s demand for a comprehensive statement by PM Modi in both houses on the Manipur crisis.
Meanwhile, the Manipur government has sought a detailed report from the Assam rifles on how 718 Myanmar nationals were allowed to enter India in just two days- July 22 and 23. According to the statement issued by Home Department, Myanmar nationals were allowed to enter India without proper travel documents amid tensions prevailing in Manipur.
