INDIA: On Monday, Centre has decided to ban 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, UC Browser, Shein and Shareit, which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order, said the government officials.

The ban comes just days after it was reported that the government had received an advisory from intelligence agencies against the use of 52 apps, many of them with links to China, over privacy concerns.

The IT Ministry said it has invoked its power under section 69A of the IT Act and rules and has decided to block 59 apps. The main concern seemed to be the collection of user data and the unauthorized sending of this data to locations outside of India.

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs has also sent an exhaustive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps.
