India is starting a year of festivities to mark the country’s 75th year of the Constitution today. The PM has launched the campaign – ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhimaan’. Celebrated on the 26th of November every year as Constitution Day, this is to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. It was formulated in the Constitution of India and came into existence on 26th January 1950, which marked a new beginning in the history of India.

The campaign is meant to pay tribute to the vision of the Constitution’s authors and to remind the key democratic values of the country, which are stated in the document. To kick start the celebrations, President Droupadi Murmu will preside over a joint session of both Houses of Parliament in the Central Hall. The event will also be addressed by the Prime Minister of India, Sh Narendra Modi.

The Constituent Assembly met for the first time on December 9, 1946, at the Central Hall of the then-new reclaimed red fort building, which was beautifully illuminated on occasion. It was lighted with the use of lamps hanging from the high ceilings having brackets on all walls to depict and complement the newly born India’s hopes and aspirations.

In the course of Tuesday’s festivities, Prime Minister Modi will release the annual report of the Indian Judiciary (2023-24), speak at a ceremonial session, and there will be a launch of a commemorative coin and stamp to mark seventy-five years of the Constitution. Additionally, two books will be released at the event. These articles include “Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse” and “Making of the Constitution of India & its Glorious Journey.”

The year-long celebration symbolizes India’s commitment to protect that constitution and democracy and enables young citizens to uphold it in the spirit of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
