A new chapter has been added to India-Brazil relations today. A trade deal has been signed between India and Brazil. Bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva reached a consensus on key issues that could give new impetus to the economies of both countries. Welcoming President Lula and his delegation to India, Prime Minister Modi said, “I am delighted to welcome President Lula and his delegation to India. India-Brazil relations have long benefited from his vision and inspiring leadership.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that the two leaders have met several times over the past few years, and each time, President Lula’s deep friendship and trust in India have been clearly felt. PM Modi said that President Lula’s visit also energizes the historic AI Impact Summit and strengthens the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Aim to take trade beyond $20 billion
Prime Minister Modi stated that Brazil is India’s largest trading partner in Latin America. Both countries are committed to taking bilateral trade beyond $20 billion in the next five years. He said, “Our trade is not just a figure; it is a reflection of mutual trust. The large business delegation accompanying President Lula reflects this trust.”
Focus on Technology and the Global South
Prime Minister Modi said that cooperation in technology and innovation is important not only for India and Brazil, but for the entire Global South. Partnerships in AI, digital technology, and the startup ecosystem can also provide new direction for developing countries.
