New Delhi: INDIA bloc leaders staged protests outside parliament today claiming that the union budgets announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman were against the principles of federalism. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin quoted that the center boycotted Tamil Nadu in the budget.
Both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha began on a stormy note after Opposition MPs protested against the Budget. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, speaking in Rajya Sabha, said “can’t name every state in Budget”. As Ms Sitharaman was speaking, several Opposition members briefly walked out of the Rajya Sabha before returning to their seats.
The decision to protest was formalized during a meeting of the leaders of the INDIA bloc at the residence of Mallikarjun Kharge, on Tuesday evening. The high-level meeting saw participation from several prominent leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Congress’ deputy leaders in both houses Pramod Tiwari and Gaurav Gogoi, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, TMC’s Derek O’Brien and Kalyan Banerjee, DMK’s TR Baalu, JMM’s Mahua Maji, AAP’s Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, and CPI(M)’s John Brittas. Congress general secretaries KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh were also present.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi alleged that the people of Delhi have been cheated in the Union Budget. Atishi said that despite Delhi paying a tax of 2.32 lakh crores, the BJP-led central government has not given even 1 percent of its share to Delhi in this budget.
