JERUSALEM – On the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s highly anticipated two-day visit to Israel, starting February 25, India is poised to significantly elevate its strategic and defense partnership with the Jewish state. This second visit by PM Modi—the first since his historic 2017 trip—marks a “tremendous alliance” that has evolved from a buyer-seller relationship into a sophisticated co-development partnership.
While both countries are expected to sign an MoU on security cooperation, no defence deal will be signed between the two countries as bilateral defence cooperation is an on-going process between two very close allies and is worth around USD 10 billion over the next years.
India-Israel MoU Nov 2025
India and Israel signed a defence MoU in November 2025 during Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh’s visit to Tel Aviv. It covers AI, cybersecurity, joint research, and co-production of weapons systems.
Several reports indicate the arms deals hit $20.5 billion from 2020 to 2024, with Israel sending 34% of its exports to India.
The latest includes an $8.6-8.7 billion package for precision munitions, SPICE bomb kits, drones, and AESA radars for Tejas Mk-1A jets.
Strengthening the Defense Shield
A primary focus of the visit is the expansion of defense cooperation into high-end technologies. Sources indicate that India and Israel will explore the joint development of anti-ballistic missile (ABM) defense systems, a critical component for “Mission Sudershan,” India’s initiative to safeguard its hinterland from long-range threats. Israel, a global leader in missile defense with systems like the Arrow, David’s Sling, and Iron Dome, has reportedly agreed to share its latest defense technologies, including much-sought-after hi-tech laser weapons and long-range stand-off missiles.
