On Saturday, India unveiled its plans to add legal immigration options in cooperation with the United States, according to a news agency.
As per the MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, such deportation resulted from the continuous bilateral consular talks being held with the United States.
Jaiswal went on to state that MEA insists on having consistent dialogue and setting up needed frameworks for immigration and movement between India and the United States. He pointed out, “In this context of dialogue, we have enabled the crossed transportation of persons who have been in the United States against the law. This process has been in progress for a while now, but through working with the US on migration issues, we are confident we can effectively stop and prevent people from immigrating to the US.”
This publication also shows that, in the period between October 2023 and September 2024, the United States deported more than 1,100 persons of Indian origin for immigration violations. Royce Murray, the assistant secretary for border and immigration policy in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), pointed to a rising trend in deportation of illegal Indians over the recent past. She thanked the Indian government for its support in addressing the issue of illegality in immigration.
The same Murray said, “We will continue to enhance partnership with the Indian government through work fronts on several fronts. We have developed this kind of cooperation and hope to further it as we face issues like the abuse of vulnerable migrants by human smugglers and fake travel agencies that sell fake information.”
This cooperation targeted at better control of immigration also reflects both countries’ determination to fight unlawful and abusive practices regarding migration and protect migrants from those practices.
