New Delhi: India recorded 2,183 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.76 per cent accounted for 1,985 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,25,10,773. The daily positivity rate rose to 0.83 per cent.

The number of active cases stood at 11,542 accounting for 0.03 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a reduction by 16 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate at 1.21 per cent recorded a steep rise in death toll with 214 deaths added taking the casuality count to 5,21,965. Although the death numbers include a backlog of 62 from Kerala, it is still a huge spike from the just single digit mortalities in the recent days.

With the administration of 2.66 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 186.54 crore according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Among the cities witnessing a surge in cases is national capital Delhi, which reported 517 Covid cases. The total number of Covid-infected patients in Delhi, according to yesterday’s bulletin, is 1,518 – the highest since March 3 this year. Several students in Delhi and adjoining cities of Ghaziabad and Noida have tested positive over the past couple of weeks, sparking panic leading to closure of schools
