New Delhi: India recorded 1,033 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 4,30,31,958. The recovery rate at 98.76 per cent accounted for 1,222 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,24,98,789. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.21 per cent.
The number of active cases stood at 11,639 accounting for 0.03 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a drop of 232 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.21 per cent reported 43 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 5,21,530.
The first case of the XE variant detected in Mumbai has prompted the BMC to investigate the discovery and study the samples sent for genome sequencing. The Union Ministry said present evidence does not suggest the presence of the XE variant of COVID denying media reports that claimed that a case of the new mutant was reported in Mumbai.
“Hours after report of detection of XE variant of Coronavirus in Mumbai,@MoHFW_INDIA has said present evidence does not suggest the presence of the new variant,” PIB Maharashtra said in a tweet.
As per the statistics reported to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, over 185.20 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country including 15.37 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March 2022. So far, more than 2.04 Cr (2,04,40,247) adolescents have been administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Nearly, 2,39,02,927 FLWs, HCWs and beneficiaries aged above 60 years have been administered 2,39,02,927 doses.
