Mumbai felt a slight reprieve as it started a sunny Sunday after a night of pouring rain and thunderstorms. But the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned that this relief might be temporary because it has issued new weather alerts to the city and the neighbouring districts, also, warning of more heavy rains.

Mumbai was put on a yellow alert, which implies that there are chances of intensified showers in isolated spots. The more intense orange warning has also been provided by the IMD against the neighboring districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, which are likely to fall in the heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that rains were witnessed all over Mumbai, which had even witnessed thunder and lightning. But by morning, the downpour had eased, with the rain becoming light only, allowing the city to be spared any major waterlogging. Gov officials ensured that there had not been any serious disruptions or floods reported, and to some extent, it was a relief to the people who commute daily.

Over the last 24 hours, the island city received 31 mm of rain, with the eastern and western suburbs receiving 21 mm and 20 mm, respectively. Monday looks like 3.55 metres at 237am, then a low of 1.06 metres at 0820am.

At the same time, IMD has also issued weather warnings outside Maharashtra. Himachal Pradesh has a yellow warning in several districts, namely Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur. The regions will experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40 to 60 kmph between Sunday and Wednesday.

Moreover, yellow alerts were raised in some areas of Jharkhand, too, and isolated heavy rains and thunderstorms are possible.
