New Delhi: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed the widespread rainfall interaction between Western Disturbance and monsoon winds. Several parts of north India including Delhi experienced a deluge as heavy rains pelted the region. The downpour resulted in significant waterlogging and severe traffic congestion.
“Northeast India to receive Heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4mm) on 9th July. Stay cautious and updated”, tweeted IMD.
The residents of North Haryana have been placed on high alert as IMD issued a warning of heavy rainfall expected to hit the region on July 9. The rainfall in the region is expected to exceed 204.4mm. Schools in Gurugram are expected to close tomorrow amid the heavy rainfall. Meanwhile Delhi ted a comprehensive inspection of the Tilak Bridge and ITO areas to assess the situation as Delhi recorded the highest rainfall of 153mm in 24 hours, the highest since 1982. The boundary wall of the Delhi government school at Garhi Jharia in the East of Kailash collapsed in the city.
