IMD has categorized some areas in the northeastern region as a ‘high flash flood’ risk, particularly Arunachal Pradesh, while for July 1 and 2, parts of Himachal Pradesh are on ‘orange rain alert’, suggesting light to moderate rainfall on Sunday.

The IMD has outlined the risk of surface runoff and inundation in fully saturated soils and low-lying areas in the above-highlighted northeastern region in the next 24 hours of the rainfall. On the other hand, incessant rain has started hitting northern India, and for the next four to five days, the IMD said there would be heavy to very heavy courage.

With tomorrow marking the beginning of the Monsoon, the weather forecast for Uttarakhand that follows until July 3 features thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain in the isolated places, heavy to very heavy rainfall in the isolated places and very heavy rainfall expected.

On Saturday afternoon, part of Haridwar received a severe downpour, which resulted in floods and many parked cars, especially those along the Sukhi riverbed, were washed away. These vehicles were transported haphazardly by the Sukhi river, which is generally a non-usable river with no water in most of the parts and occasionally suddenly flooded – its water swept these vehicles and took them towards the merging point of the two – the Ganga. People of the city stood on neighbouring structures, such as at Har ki Pauri, to capture the action with mobile cameras.

Moving forward through the next five days, the weather agency expects light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in most parts of NW, Central, and East India. Uneaten heavy to very heavy showers are expected in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan from Sunday till next Wednesday. Also, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in West Rajasthan on July 2 and 3, and isolated heavy rain will be in Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand on Sunday. Similar conditions are expected in Bihar from Sunday to July 2.
