The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has given an alert of dense to very dense fog in the wide areas of North India in the next few days warning of severely low visibility in the foreign morning hours. As noted in the most recent IMD bulletin, the states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana will experience the thick fog between 19 and 21 December, especially in the late night-time and the morning.
Moggy weather is likely to be experienced in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Bihar on December 19 and 20 and few isolated pockets may further have a few more days of lingering fog. The IMD also predicted the presence of heavy fog along areas of Northeast India between the 19th and 22nd of December. States like Himachal Pradesh, and Odisha and Jharkhand can have fog on the 19 th and 20 th December, and on 18 th to 20 December respectively.
The weather agency has also warned of cold day and severe cold day conditions in areas of North India along with the presence of fog. The next two days, it is likely to get very cold in isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand whereas West Madhya Pradesh can get into the cold wave on December 18.
The recent weather forecasts indicate the severity of the case. In Tamil Nadu, during the last 24 hours, very heavy rains occurred at isolated places. There was also a thick haze that was reported to have a visibility below 50 metres in some areas of Uttar Pradesh, and in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand.
Cities like Agra and Bareilly in West Uttar Pradesh had almost zero visibility and at Aligarh, the visibility was only 40 metres. In East Uttar Pradesh, such localities as Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and Kanpur, have been reported to have zero visibility at some point and other locations have been registered at between 10 and 150 metres. Cities in Uttarakhand such as Haridwar, Pantnagar and Khatima recorded visibility of 25 to 75 metres.
