The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a slew of orange and yellow alerts for states including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and the potential for flash floods.
Himachal Pradesh has witnessed massive damage due to rain-related incidents this year and is set to witness a fresh spell of heavy rainfall starting July 28. The local meteorological department has issued a yellow warning for 10 districts on Monday, excluding the tribal areas of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.
Meanwhile, in Dehradun, the State Emergency Operations Center has flagged a low to medium-level flood risk in Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Uttarkashi. District Magistrates have been advised to take precautionary measures in view of the expected rainfall.
SDMA, Himachal Pradesh, said in a statement, “Around 88 deaths were caused by rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, while 73 people have lost their lives in road accidents caused by slippery roads and debris.”
In Madhya Pradesh, water fell in more than 30 districts, including the capital Bhopal, Indore. Today, an orange alert for heavy rain has been issued in 10 districts. These areas may receive up to 8 inches of rain in 24 hours. The weather will remain the same in the state for the next three days.
According to the Meteorological Department, the low-pressure area remained active in the western part of the state on Sunday. The activity of two troughs was also seen. Due to which, there was a period of very heavy or heavy rain. Similar weather will remain in MP for the next 2-3 days. Today, on Monday, a warning of very heavy rain has been issued in Gwalior, Guna, Datia, Ashoknagar, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Morena and Bhind. Up to 8.5 inches of water can fall here in 24 hours.
