Indian Air Force (IAF) Vice Chief Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari on Friday termed Operation Sindoor as a classic illustration of air power’s decisiveness in contemporary combat. Addressing a seminar organized by the Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS) and the College of Air Warfare, Air Marshal Tiwari pointed out that the operation illustrated the power of small but accurate military operations.
None can be a greater example than Operation Sindoor. He held an interactive session on air power that, with less than 50 weapons, it was able to bring an opponent to the negotiating table, something that is about the economics of air power. He continued that the operation is worthy of intense study, saying, Maybe it is too early, but definitely this will be studied in detail in the future.
With Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan leading the event along with former IAF chiefs and foreign defence attachés in the seminar, the aim was to discuss the new ways of warfare through aircraft, as well as the controversies behind the developed manned and unmanned weapons. Air Marshal Tiwari emphasized that although the unmanned systems are evolving quite rapidly, the manned aircraft possess a “huge advantage” and will not lose its criticality in the foreseeable future.
On May 7, Operation Sindoor was initiated by striking the various terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The surgical strikes of the Indian Air Force greatly undermined enemy lines and urged Pakistan to engage in talks. The conflict that had arisen between the two nuclear-armed countries ceased when an understanding was reached on the evening of May 10.
The operation is now being touted as an example of the realization of strategic goals through minimal use of force and its application to show the development of the air power idea, along with that of India, in delivering its decisive effects in the precise application of fewer forces.
