A Bengaluru police station has received a complaint of attempted murder filed by one of India’s top Pilots. Vikas Kumar, a call centre employee, software engineer, had earlier been arrested in this incident and had filed a counter complaint on which the FIR was registered. The police said that the complaint alleges that Kumar was assaulted by the IAF officer, Wing Commander Sheeladitya Bose, after a minor road accident and was threatened.
Inspector B Shiva Kumar of the Baiyappanahalli police station confirmed that Bose has been booked under charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and breach of peace. That was after police reviewed CCTV footage provided by Kumar, which he reportedly submitted, showing that the officer attacked him during a heated altercation.
According to officials, IAF officer Bose and his wife Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta (DRDO) were going to Bengaluru airport on Monday morning around 6 a.m. to catch a flight to Kolkata. However, this minor traffic collision turned into a physical confrontation between Bose and Kumar. According to Dutta, Kumar was first arrested on the complaint.
Responding firmly to the controversy, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that all the parties associated with it will be subjected to legal action, no matter what their status or place may be. Talking to reporters in Mandya, he said, “I have instructed the police to take action under the law, whether it is a Wing Commander or any other.” He also lashed out against Bose for allegedly coming up with offensive and inflammatory remarks on social media against Karnataka and its people.
The Indian Air Force, in a statement, said it is ‘fully cooperating with the authorities in the probe’. The case remains in the public limelight for its suggestive nature in the hands of high-level officials.
