Himachal Pradesh: The assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh started today at around 8 am. The fight for the 68 assembly seats might incur conflicts between the ruling party and oppositions due to which the polling booths have been under high end security. This year, a total of 55,92,828 people will cast their votes that include 28,54,945 men and 27,37,945 women. There are a total of 38 third-gender voters as well. The voting will continue till 5 pm which will decide the fate of 412 candidates contesting the assembly polls in the state.
The state is currently ruled by BJP and they look forward to retaining power whereas Congress and AAP parties are also eyeing big wins across the state. As per the latest reports, the current CM of the state Jairam Thakur has cast his vote along with his family. While speaking to the Media, he said that he is “confident of a grand win” and he also said that the feedback from people is great.
On the other hand, Congress MLA Vikramaditya Singh has urged people to come forward and cast their vote peacefully. Another Congress Chief, Pratibha Singh said, “We’d like to tell people of Himachal Pradesh to vote for development & work. Congress always worked for development & in the time to come only Congress can take that work forward in the state. We’re confident of winning 40-45 seats.”
It must be taken into account that Himachal Pradesh is a hilly area and setting up polling booths at some places was a challenge to the election commission. Despite that, a total of 7881 polling booths have been set up in the state. The highest booth has been set up at Trashigang, Kaza which is located in the Spiti area and situated at a height of around 15,256 feet. A total of 52 voters will vote in this area. For the security of the voters, the HP government has called 67 companies of CAPF that consist of 6,700 personnel and 15 CRPF companies as well. Till the time of publication of this article, no news of violence has been reported.
