Mumbai: In yet another horrifying train derailment, 18 coaches of Mumbai-bound Howara-CSMT Express derailed in Jharkhand early morning. The Howara-CSMT Express derailed near Badabamboo, around 80 km from Jamshedpur at around 3.45 am, killing 2 on the spot and leaving at least 20 injured.
Rescue teams were rushed to the site immediately after the derailment was notified and a rescue and relief operation is on, officials said.
Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan said that a goods train had also derailed nearby, but it was not yet clear whether the two accidents occurred concurrently.
Meanwhile, three trains were canceled, while one each was short-terminated and diverted as the route was affected after the derailment. The canceled trains were Howrah-Kantabanji Ispat Express (22861), Kharagpur-Dhanbad Express, and Hawrah-Barbil Express. South Bihar Express (13288) was diverted, and Asansol Tata Memu Pass Special Train (08173) was short-terminated at Adra.
Earlier on July 28, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw claimed in Rajya Sabha that the railways will manufacture additional 10,000 non-AC Coaches including General Class and Sleeper Class Coaches, the Minister. Amid complaints of overcrowding in the trains, the railways decision to add more general coaches was expected to help meet the increased demand for non-AC coaches.
