Lucknow. The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh has given a big relief to BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and has ended the criminal case registered against him. The High Court accepted the application of the state government to withdraw the case, which was earlier rejected by the lower court. Along with this, the High Court also cancelled the decision of the lower court. This case was registered in Gonda in 2014.

In the year 2014, an FIR was registered against Brijbhushan Sharan in Gonda’s Kotwali Nagar under Section 188 and 341 of the IPC. In which Brijbhushan was accused of disobeying the order declared by the public servant. He was accused of violating Section 144 of CRPC. After investigation in this case, the court had filed a charge sheet.

After the chargesheet was filed, Brij Bhushan Sharan was summoned to appear in court. The former MP challenged this and on 20 August 2022, the High Court quashed the charge of contempt against him. During this, the High Court told the lower court that if the petitioner admits the crime, then the case should be disposed of by making him pay a fine instead of jail.

Brij Bhushan Sexual Harassment Case

In July 2023, Delhi Court granted bail to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is not only a BJP Member of Parliament but also the outgoing Chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). This decision comes amid the investigation into a sexual harassment case involving wrestlers. The case has drawn considerable attention and scrutiny, given Singh’s prominent roles in both politics and the national wrestling governing body.

The Delhi High Court took a significant step by instructing the ad-hoc panel responsible for the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) affairs to explain the reasons behind exempting top wrestlers, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, from the Asian Games trials. The court’s directive came during a hearing on a petition filed by Under-20 World Champion Antim Panghal and Under-23 Asian Champion Sujeet Kalkal, who raised concerns over the direct entry granted to Phogat and Punia without undergoing trials.
