Amritsar: High alert has been issued across Punjab ahead of Baisakhi at a time when the hunt for Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh is on. All leaves of Punjab cops have been cancelled until April 14, a week from now as the radical Sikh leader is urging Shri Akal Takht Sahib to hold a ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ to discuss Sikh issues.

The way Amritpal tried to dictate his terms to Jathedar has not gone down well with the Sikh community and Skuh Gurudwara Prabandak Committee. The chief of Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh has not reacted to Amritpal’s demand, but the decision to organise Gurmat Samagam; a three-day event from April 12 to 15 indicates that the committee holds no plans for Sarbat Khalsa.

Punjab Police has made adequate safety arrangements in public areas. Since March 18, Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh has been on the run and released two videos and an audio clip. His surrender before Baisakhi at Golden Temple is highly speculated.
