Delhi and its neighbouring districts like Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Noida witnessed heavy rain in the early hours of Wednesday. The unexpected morning showers prompted a plunge in the temperature. However it created flood like situation in the area due to waterlogging and also leading to long traffic jams.

The Delhi Traffic Police in a series of tweets warned citizens about flooding, traffic jams and road obstructions.

According to a media report, heavy rainfall also led to collapses of houses and walls in some parts, and damaged vehicles. 

Earlier, The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain and cloudy sky for the national capital today. 

The rainfall led to waterlogging in certain areas and key stretches of significant streets in the city, news office PTI revealed. 

The weather department likewise predicted light to moderate showers for the city’s areas bordering Delhi. 

Delhi traffic police additionally gave traffic alerts on their official Twitter handle. 

The weather department also predicted rain for Kosli, Bawal, Nuh, Sohna, Palwal, Hodal, Faridabad, Gurugram, Manesar, Ballabhgarh and Faridabad. 

Prior, it had predicted moderate to heavy rain on Wednesday. 

Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the regional forecasting centre of the IMD, told news organization PTI that the axis of monsoon will remain close to the national capital till Thursday. 

Southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea and southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are also feeding moisture to the region, he said. 

The Safdarjung Observatory, which gives delegate figures to the city, has recorded 139.2 mm rainfall against the normal of 157.1 mm in August up until this point, an insufficiency of 11 percent. 

Generally, it has recorded 457.8 mm rainfall, six percent more than the ordinary of 433.2 mm since June 1 when the monsoon season begins.
