According to the latest forecast from the IMD, India is currently dealing with record temperatures in the north and west, contrasted by very heavy rainfall in the south and west.

The bulletin noted that a low-pressure area marked on the east-central Arabian Sea, near the south Konkan coast, has now become a depression. At 5:30 AM on Saturday, the heavy storm’s centre was 40 km northwest of Ratnagiri. The forecast is for the system to proceed almost eastward and reach land around Ratnagiri or Dapoli as a depression in the forenoon of 24 May.

The southwest monsoon started over Kerala on Saturday, making it the earliest onset since 2009, when it arrived there on May 23. In Kerala, the monsoon kicks off on June 1 and by July 8 it reaches every corner of India, withdrawing again on October 15.

Meanwhile, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan in Northwest India are experiencing hotter-than-usual temperatures. According to IMD, maximum temperatures could rise by 2–4°C in the region over the next two days and then remain stable.

Besides, strong dust storms blowing at 40–50 km/h are expected across West Rajasthan up until May 25. The weather agency has pointed out that people should brace for thunderstorms, including lightning and strong gusts, in certain areas in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh from May 24 to May 29.

Everyone is asked to be cautious when the country gets ready for this unusual mix of poor weather.
