Noida: The main accused, Devprakash Madhukar, who was involved in the July 2 Hathras satsang stampede, was arrested in Delhi from a hideout by the police of UP. He has confessed that he was in touch with several political parties. Crime is something that is suspected to have been funded by politics as per the authorities, since many events sponsored by self-proclaimed godman Bhole Baba, also identified as Surajpal or Narayan Sakar Hari, are involved. Two more accused, Ramprakash Shakya, 61, and Sanju Yadav, 33, were arrested in Hathras in connection with this heinous crime that eventually led to the death of 121 people.
Madhukar, 42, was picked up from the Najafgarh area of Delhi on Friday night by a Hathras police team with a Special Operations Group, Police said Hathras Superintendant Nipun Agarwal. According to Agarwal, investigations have occurred mostly on aspects of money laundering regarding Madhukar’s part where his responsibility was to fundraise for Bhole Baba’s occasions. The police are asking for remand to follow up on these aspects.
But opposing this contention, Madhukar’s lawyer, A P Singh, claimed on Friday night that his client went to Delhi police surrendered himself, and simultaneously applied for medical treatment in Delhi. By the end of Saturday, Madhukar was taken under police protection to the Bagla Combined District Hospital in Hathras for a medical examination and wore a handkerchief and stole that covered most of his face.
Claimed as the ‘mukhya sevadar’ (chief organizer) of a Satsang during which the tragedy took place, Madhukar is the only person whose name features in the FIR lodged at Sikandra Rao police station in Hathras regarding the event.
While arguing about the investigations of Madhukar’s financial business and the possibility of political parties providing money for staging such events in view of their own selves. He also focused on detailed observations of Madhukar’s bank accounts, assets, and monetary transactions; Gagan asserted that partnerships with other agencies were feasible if needed.
Additional information obtained from initial questioning revealed that Madhukar had served as a junior engineer at the NREGA project in Etah district from the year 2010.
